What Our Patients Say

Karen Beebe

I was referred to Jonson and am so grateful. He is so welcoming and friendly. And he is incredibly knowledgeable. He definitely understands the body and how it operates. But what I loved the most was how he got creative with the exercises I needed to rebuild my strength in a way that truly fits into my lifestyle. So for me, my exercises looked more like a yoga flow than static exercises. YAY. I got to keep doing what I love while at the same time rehabbing my body. Highly recommend this practice and Jonson.

Drew Himel

Dr. Jonson and his entire Direct Orthopedic team are incredible, he spent a lot of time better understanding my injury and thoroughly explained what was going on with my body and the appropriate exercises to help ease the pain and prevent future injuries. I’ve been to a lot of other physical therapists where they barely spend any time with you and give you exercises to do while seeing lots of other patients. That was not the case with Direct and can’t recommend their services enough. Thank you again for all your help.

James Beebe

My PT is the greatest PT one could ask for. She lives what she preaches, focus on the patient. She kept on schedule was prompt with any changes, excellent communication and excellent knowledge of the muscular skeletal arrangement and remedial approach to getting me back in shape. (total hip replacement) A wonderful rehabilitation experience (A+)

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is post-surgery rehabilitation important?

Post-surgery rehabilitation promotes proper healing, reduces pain, restores mobility, and helps you regain strength and function. It also prevents complications like stiffness, muscle atrophy, and blood clots.

When should I start post-surgery rehabilitation?

The timeline depends on the type of surgery and your doctor’s recommendation. Some rehabilitation begins immediately after surgery, while others may start after an initial healing period.

How long does rehabilitation take?

The duration varies based on the surgery, individual healing rates, and personal goals. It can range from a few weeks to several months.

What happens during a rehabilitation session?

Sessions typically include a mix of therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, pain management techniques, and education on safe movement and recovery practices.

Will rehabilitation be painful?

Some discomfort is normal, especially early on, as you regain strength and mobility. However, your therapist will ensure exercises are manageable and modify them as needed.

Do I need a referral for post-surgery physical therapy?

In many cases, a referral from your surgeon or primary care doctor is required, but this depends on your insurance.

Can I do rehabilitation exercises at home?

Yes, your therapist will provide a customized home exercise program to complement in-clinic sessions and accelerate your recovery.

What if I skip rehabilitation?

Skipping rehab can lead to slower recovery, reduced mobility, chronic pain, and a higher risk of complications such as stiffness or re-injury.

Is rehabilitation covered by insurance?

Most insurance plans, including Medicare, cover post-surgery rehabilitation, but coverage varies. Check with your provider for details. We also accept self-pay patients.

How do I know if I’m progressing?

Your therapist will regularly assess your progress, including improvements in strength, range of motion, and pain levels. Goals will be adjusted as you advance.

What should I bring to my rehabilitation sessions?

Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy movement, bring any assistive devices (e.g., crutches, braces), and any paperwork or instructions from your doctor.

What happens if I miss a session?

Missing a session may slow your progress. Inform your therapist as soon as possible to reschedule and stay on track.

Can I return to sports or work after rehabilitation?

Yes, the goal of rehabilitation is to help you return to your normal activities. Your therapist will guide you on when it’s safe to resume specific tasks.
