Dr. Aftan Delaney
PT, DPT, Physical Therapist, Clinical Liaison

I grew up in Dayton Ohio and still have a lot of family there so I visit as often as I can. I went to school at the University of Dayton and was a short sprinter on the track team as an undergraduate student. Due to the rigorous track schedule, I was able to stay for an additional semester in my undergraduate to take my labs (which were only offered during AM weight lifting time). During this time the University of Dayton engulfed a local Physical Therapy School to which I was enrolled in the inaugural class. Because it was the first year, I was able to create my own clinical affiliations and traveled to San Diego, Cincinnati, and Jacksonville, FL for my hands-on experience. As I finished my 12-week clinical at Heekin Orthopedics (now Southeast Orthopedics), I was hired on as a full time therapist and moved down as soon as I graduated. I have since gotten married, and now have 2 children who are involved in baseball and volleyball. I have been a Physical Therapist since 2009, having worked as an outpatient physical therapist for most of my career.

The values that drive me are compassion and kindness.

“It’s never enough, is it? Time. We always think we have so much of it, but when it really counts, we don’t have enough at all.”
-TJ Klune; Under the Whispering Door

I am a Physical Therapy Clinician at Direct Orthopedic Therapy. Patient’s often lose the ability to do the things that spark joy in their lives. Spending each and every moment with their injury can dull the sparkle in life. I love helping to nurture them back to those activities and celebrating the small victories that show progress toward their ultimate goals.

I love the option of visiting a person’s house to find their specific limitations and have a direct link to work toward their goals with the equipment they have available to them at home; it minimizes the probability of non-compliance due to lack of resources. I love that DOT is a small group of talented physical therapists and administration that has the goal of catering to each and every patient as an individual.

Jimmy John’s BBQ chips

First and foremost, I love spending time with my family playing outside, swimming, or settling in for a movie. During my alone time, I enjoy running and knitting, both of which feed into my 3rd favorite hobby: reading/listening to audiobooks. I decompress by re-organizing or rearranging furniture in my house. As an introvert, spending time alone going to a movie or bringing a book to have a nice meal.
