Kinesiology Taping to Treat Plantar Fasciitis & Foot Pain

April 19, 2022

There are many modalities and techniques that physical therapy uses. It is nearly impossible to count kinesiology as one of these modalities. Plantar fasciitis is a condition that causes pain and discomfort in the heel or other side of the foot. Kinesiology tape can be used to treat this condition.

Plantar Fasciitis

This is when the inflammation or irritation occurs of the plantar fascia. It is the thick band that runs from your heel to your toes and provides stability and shape to your feet. Your plantar fasciitis can become inflamed if you do repetitive stretching of your heels, such as climbing stairs or playing certain sports. Plantar fasciitis can cause pain in your feet and make it difficult to do everyday activities, such as walking. This condition can be managed by a physical therapist who will reduce inflammation and help you return to your normal life.

Apply Kinesiology Tape on Your Feet

Kinesiology tape will be recommended by your physical therapist. However, you should discuss how to properly apply it and whether it is safe for use. You can have this tape evaluated by a physical therapist to see if it is likely to be of benefit to you. This step is not recommended for people who have medical conditions.

Procedure

  • You may need to have help from a friend or physical therapist in applying the tape to your feet.
  • First, keep your food close at your face and flex your toes toward the tape.
  • Secure the ends of your strips by applying a left strip once your foot is in a stretch position between 75% and 100%.
  • There must be no tension on your upper foot. It will only be on the lower side
  • Repeat this process two to three more times. Make sure every strip is slightly overlapped from the previous trips, so that the entire Middle arch is covered.
  • You can use and I strip in some cases to cook your food.

Take care

It should be snug and not need to be folded. You can use the tape for up to five days. After that time, it might get wet and begin to peel away on its own. It is possible to remove the tape and refresh it
